     The Second Sunday Flea Market @ The DUCK, is proving to be a very popular event. In the spirit of the Old Leucadia Flea Market, vendors offer a very interesting selection of vintage merchandise and oddments for your consideration. We continue to add new vendors. This coming Sunday, August 29th , we are having a SPECIAL EDITION Flea Market which will coincide with the Twelfth Leucadia Art Walk. Please take this opportunity to explore Leucadia and enjoy the art, music and our beautiful weather. Make a stop at Ducky Waddle's Emporium and check out the FLEA MARKET. We will have a full compliment of 12 vendors, 10:00-4:00 on Sunday.

     Please join us for our next Poetry Ruckus @ The Duck, Wednesday, Aug. 18, doors open at 7:00 pm. We are very excited about this month's Special Guest, Jane Mushinsky. Originally from New England, (Always will be a New Englander), a twenty year resident of our area, Jane is a professor of English at Mira Costa and has also taught creative writing. She is a member of the American Poetry Society. Jane practices and studies Zen Buddhism, is a member of Hotei Ji Zen Center and says that Buddhism has influenced her poetry. Please join us on Wednesday evening and come early to guarantee a seat. Our past events have been SRO.

     The POETRY RUCKUS @ The Duck is a monthly poetry event that features local poets reading their work and always features a Special Guest Poet. If you would like to participate and be added to our performance roster, email Michael, ruthlesshippies@gmail.com to be added to the roster.

     There is no admission charge but we ask for a small donation to help offset our expenses.

     Everybody likes old timey music and it doesn't come any better than The WIGBILLIES. Our favorite artist Mary Fleener on Base and dulcimer and 15 Fingers Paul Therrio on guitar. For their performance at The Duck they will be joined by Cousin Mert Fleagle on a very interesting selection of antique stringed instruments and his side kick Petty "Boom Boom" Bogle on a small but effective drum set. This will be a gig not to be missed. Thursday May, 20, 2010. Doors open at 7;00, show starts at 7:30. Reserved seats $10.00 (HERE) or at the door the evening of the show.      David J will be performing at The DUCK, Tuesday evening April 13. His performance will consist of enhanced DJ sets accompanied by his son, Joseph, improvising on assorted loops and drones. Featuring live remixing of pre-recorded collaborations with Pepe Mogt and Roberto Mendoza of the Nortec Collective. For the last several years, in addition to his other musical ventures, David has been an in demand DJ not only as a resident DJ in Hollywood venues but on the international club scene as well.

     David J has always been a very interesting artist. As the quiet mysterious bass player for BAUHAUS who penned their signature song "Bela Lugosi's Dead", and the driving force behind LOVE and ROCKETS he has always pushed the envelope. He recorded two albums as bass player with The Jazz Butcher and has had many side projects involving a who's who of musicians including our own Joyce Rooks. He is an artist who has shown his works in many galleries including our EMPORIUM Gallery and San Diego's Planet Rooth Gallery. He composed the original music for a stage production of Samuel Beckett's Cascando. In 2008, David wrote and directed a play Silver for Gold which is based on the life of Edie Sedgwick.

     David J's performance at Ducky Waddle's Emporium is the third show in an ongoing series of musical events featuring important local musicians with national and international stature. Seating and refreshments will be provided but because of the ambient nature of the event you may feel free to wander about our facility to peruse our presentation of eclectic art treasures and great selection of books.      The Full Moon Poetry Slams have been an Encinitas tradition for over a decade. Held at the historic La Paloma Theater, all poetry presented will be passionate, original and free from gimmicks like snappy soundtracks or ridiculous costumes and props. Audience participation is an integral part of the event so look for an experience as raucous from the seats as it is from the stage. This is a contest and there will be prizes but by supporting artistic expression and individual thinking it is our community that ends up winning the most.

     Our favorite BBW and local blues and jazz legend Candye Kane will be performing in the Ducky Waddle's Emporium salon showcase on Thursday February 18th. Doors open at 7:00 with the show beginning at 8:00.

     Candye has been a singer all of her life and early on identified with the female legends of the blues; Big Maybelle, Ruth Brown, Big Mama Thornton, Etta James and Bessie Smith. The brash blues stylings of these pioneering women, many with colorful pasts, many, plus-sized, who had grown up in oppressive, horrible circumstances and yet were still able to make music and celebrate their sexual lives, were a huge influence and constant inspiration for Candye.

     She has played an important role in the local music scene for many years and has toured nationally and internationally for over a decade. She has recorded eight CD's and won many awards including the Best Blues Band award at the San Diego Music Awards 7 times. Don't miss this opportunity to see Candye Kane, up close and personal in our intimate salon environment.
